Critical Reading & Writing Level 0

The Critical Reading and Writing L0 course aims to prepare students for fiction and nonfiction reading benchmark assessments by incorporating fiction and nonfiction series, close read passages and benchmark passages to develop students' background knowledge, stimulate their interest in literature, increase their comprehension skills and foster critical thinking. Students will build independent reading skills required to read increasingly complex text through the grades. Furthermore, students will gain adequate mastery of a range of skills and applications that demonstrates language use, vocabulary and syntax in writing.
Below is a complete detailed description for Critical Reading and Writing Standards.

Reading Literature - students will ask and answer questions (e.g. who, what, when, where, why and how) to demonstrate understanding of key details in text, describe structure of a story, acknowledge differences in points of views of characters, compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story and be able to read and comprehend literature.

Writing - students will write opinion pieces, informative and explanatory text, narratives, and with guidance, produce and publish writing. Students will also participate in shared research and writing projects.
