The SAT Writing and Language Test requires three main tasks: reading, finding mistakes and weaknesses, and fixing them within 35 minutes.

This section of the SAT is testing what students are already doing for their daily course work in high school. Questions will test your expression of ideas and command of evidence, which requires you to choose answers that sharpen argumentative claims or adding relevant supporting details to responses. The exam will also test your ability to use words in context and use analytic skills reading history and science passages.

What you need to know:

  • Prior topic knowledge is never tested

  • This section of the test is part of the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section

  • No math is required, but some passages include informational graphics (graphs, tables and charts)

  • All questions are multiple choice
